Some federal and non-federal sponsors require that applicants demonstrate their commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The FAS Research Development team has curated the resources below to guide applicants who are preparing diversity plans or other diversity components for grant proposals.

Individual Diversity Plans for Grant Proposals
An individual, lab, or project-specific DEI statement or plan may be required for your grant proposal. The FAS Research Development Team has developed guidance documents for the following:
- Department of Energy Promoting Inclusive and Equitable Research (PIER) Plan Guidance
- NIH BRAIN Initiative Plan for Enhancing Diverse Perspectives Guidance
Steps for preparing a diversity plan:
- Brainstorm ideas for your plan: At least four weeks in advance of the sponsor deadline, email research_development@fas.harvard.edu to set up a meeting with a Harvard-based diversity expert to brainstorm ideas and/or receive feedback on a draft. More lead time may be needed for center grants or multi-PI grants that require partnering with other institutions.
- Draft your plan.
- Review and feedback: At least two weeks in advance of the sponsor deadline, request a review of your plan for responsiveness to the sponsor guidelines from a member of the Research Development team by emailing research_development@fas.harvard.edu.
