Our Mission and Services

The FAS Office of Research Administration, or FORA, advances the research and scholarly mission of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences through expert guidance, comprehensive support, and seamless collaboration with researchers and administrative colleagues. As your trusted partner in navigating the complexities of the full research lifecycle with integrity and care, we are your hub for research support and direction.

Our support areas include:

Research Development

The Research Development team offers a range of resources to help researchers identify funding opportunities and are also available to work individually with faculty and administrators to identify suitable funding sources based on specific funding needs and priorities.

Pre-Award

The Pre-Award team supports the internal proposal review and submission process by providing proposal resources, ensuring adherence to sponsor guidelines and University policies, and advising on compliance with sponsor terms and conditions as well as University and school policies.

Research Finance

The Research Finance team is committed to supporting the departments of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences in their management of sponsored funds. In partnership with researchers, departmental administrators, central administrators, and the Office for Sponsored Programs, we support the policies and procedures that enable Harvard to be compliant with the regulations and requirements of our sponsors.

FASTRAC

The FAS Temporary Research Administration Consulting, or FASTRAC, program was launched in response to departmental requests for highly-trained research administration professionals to alleviate workload and mitigate compliance risk during times of high need or staff vacancies. FASTRAC is a no-cost service that offers short-term research administration assistance to FAS departments and centers. Assignments are temporary and typically last no longer than three months.

FORA Forum

FORA Forum monthly meetings inform you about the latest research administration developments and connect you to the larger FAS research administration community. We aim to provide practical and valuable information to support individual success and the collective research effort. These meetings are open to all Harvard research administrators.

Connect FORA

Connect FORA is an informal space designed for research administrators to come together, talk honestly about our daily work, and learn from one another. More information can be found on our FORA SharePoint site, accessible to Harvard affiliates.
