### What resources are available to help FAS postdocs find funding opportunities? expand\_more

Harvard University subscribes to [three searchable funding opportunity databases](https://research.fas.harvard.edu/funding-opportunity-databases). Postdoctoral scholars may be introduced to two of those tools – Pivot and Foundation Directory Online – by watching a [pre-recorded workshop on Finding Funding](https://harvard.zoom.us/rec/play/9MAXcO6JKDfNf8GoSnSr-CvORrpRGKpLabCnT8Jhvv6rfH0xYO9d7joOkR4LHdZ76KlkDAk-s9JPMMBy.n-Ilqm64g2bzEDZ-?eagerLoadZvaPages=sidemenu.billing.plan_management&accessLevel=meeting&canPlayFromShare=true&from=share_recording_detail&continueMode=true&componentName=rec-play&originRequestUrl=https%3A%2F%2Fharvard.zoom.us%2Frec%2Fshare%2FB06ZBYPCkM9Kw5t1UU0LU8W5PL8dB17MJ0wDG-UlC7nJT2wwP3VRLJOQknuEu6U_.XoyhH01XIJEwg5Oo).

### As a postdoc, how do I submit an application for funding? expand\_more

There are two ways to submit an application for funding: you may submit as an individual or through Harvard University’s Office for Sponsored Programs (OSP). Some sponsors will require you to submit as an individual while others will require you to submit through the institution. Please be aware that there may be tax, benefits, and other implications that may change depending on whether you submit through Harvard University or as an individual. We highly recommend that you discuss your applications with a departmental grants administrator or your faculty mentor prior to submitting a proposal.

### I am a postdoc in a department without a grants administrator. Where can I go to receive guidance and support to develop and submit my application(s)? expand\_more

If your department does not offer grant support, please contact FAS Office of Research Administration (FORA) to see what support we are able to provide. Postdocs in Social Science departments that do not have a designated sponsored research administrator should contact [Jimmy Matejek-Morris](mailto:jmatejek@fas.harvard.edu). Postdocs in the Arts & Humanities Division or from Non-Divisional Departments and Centers should contact [Katherine Zuccala](mailto:kzuccala@fas.harvard.edu).

### I am a postdoc based in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Who needs to review my grant proposal before submission? expand\_more

For opportunities for which awards would be issued directly to Harvard University, proposals must be reviewed and approved by the following:

- Your department or center
- The Office for Sponsored Programs (OSP)
- Additional signatures (including FAS Office of Research Administration (FORA), Office of Technology Development (OTD), or the Office of the Vice Provost for Research (OVPR)) may be required based on the content and circumstances of the proposal.

Certain fellowship opportunities specify that resulting awards will be awarded/issued directly to the postdoctoral fellow; proposals for such opportunities may be submitted directly to the sponsor without the requirement of internal review. Please contact your sponsored research administrator as early as possible with any intention for proposal submission to review and confirm the required process for each opportunity.

### When do I need to submit my application to the Office for Sponsored Programs for review? expand\_more

Proposals must be submitted to FAS and OSP at least 5 business days before they are due to any sponsor, per Harvard’s [Proposal Submission Policy](http://osp.finance.harvard.edu/proposal-submission-deadlines). For more information about the review process, please see [Review & Submission](https://research.fas.harvard.edu/review-and-submission).

### Where can postdocs go for advice on career and professional development needs? expand\_more

The [FAS Office of Postdoctoral Affairs](https://postdoc.fas.harvard.edu/) offers guidance and resources for postdoctoral scholars.

### Does Harvard offer internal funding for faculty, postdocs, and students? expand\_more

Yes, Harvard University offers many internal funding programs. Please refer to this list of internal [Harvard Funding](https://research.fas.harvard.edu/funding-sources) opportunities, available to faculty, postdocs, and students. Additionally, please explore this curated list of [opportunities available to postdoctoral scholars](https://research.fas.harvard.edu/postdoc_opportunities), including internal programs.

### I am not a U.S citizen or permanent resident – am I still eligible to apply for funding? expand\_more

Yes. Some sponsors only offer funding to U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or scholars who have been living in the United States for at least three years. However, eligibility differs considerably from sponsor to sponsor and many offer funding to non-U.S. citizens and foreign nationals.
